Vent-Axia Adds Powerful New Model to its Sentinel Kinetic MVHR Range

Leading British ventilation manufacturer Vent-Axia has added a powerful new model to its popular Lo-Carbon Sentinel Kinetic range of mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) units. Ideal for larger homes and multiple occupancy units, such as care homes and student accommodation, the addition of the Sentinel Kinetic High Flow means Vent-Axia now offers a complete range of MVHR solutions from small apartments up to light commercial.
Manufactured in the UK the Sentinel Kinetic High Flow benefits from the latest high efficiency, backward curved impeller design and boasts a specific fan power as low as 0.65 W/l/s. These features ensure the lowest possible energy consumption and an exceptional performance range covering small one-bed apartments to the largest of houses.
Recognised in SAP PCDB, High Flow combines supply and extract ventilation in one unit. Warm, moist air is extracted from ‘wet’ rooms through ducting and passed through the heat exchanger before being exhausted outside, and fresh incoming air is preheated via the integral heat exchanger. Boasting up to 175l/s at 150Pa, the powerful High Flow is capable of extracting from up to fourteen bathrooms and a communal kitchen, for example in a student accommodation or care home setting, while still achieving almost 90% heat recovery. Meanwhile, the fully automatic capability of the Kinetic range means effective ventilation is always achieved.
Offering installation flexibility the High Flow features 180mm/200mm spigots that can be re-positioned to give horizontal connection or a combination of vertical and horizontal connection. The horizontal duct option is ideal for space-saving installations and a unique folding filter can be easily removed, even when access is restricted. Installation is further enhanced thanks to the integrated digital controller for simple and accurate commissioning.
Featuring multiple plug and play control options and BMS connectivity, the High Flow has sensor inputs allowing boosting from a full range of Vent-Axia controllers including humidistats, Vent-Wise and timers, as well as a wireless remote. Switched live is available for boosting via light switches and benefits from a ‘delay on’ feature which prevents the unit boosting unnecessarily and a ‘delay off’ timer that ensures effective moisture removal. Alternatively manual boost switches are available.
The unit’s BMS capability is ideal for those commercial applications where landlords or property managers want to monitor and optimise building performance and maintenance. The Kinetic BMS can provide status information and its self-diagnostics offer simplified fault finding.
To ensure year round thermal comfort in increasingly air tight properties, Vent Axia’s High Flow includes a programmable summer bypass which operates when a home’s temperature rises above a pre-set comfort temperature. Meanwhile, in winter the unit utilises frost protection to stop frost building up on the intake side of the heat exchanger and so preventing damage.
In addition, heat recovery ventilation reduces excessive moisture in the air, combating condensation and potential mould growth, saving money on maintenance and decoration in the long and short-term. Occupants are further aided through better indoor air quality which has the dual health benefits of reducing microscopic fungal growth and eliminating the conditions in which house dust mites thrive, both of which are linked to allergic reactions and asthma.

Leading British fan manufacturer Vent-Axia is delighted to showcase its Sentinel Kinetic MVHR within a Dwelle Micro Building at Grand Designs Live (4-12 May 2013, Excel, London). This year, Dwelle, the Manchester-based architects are presenting a brand new range of micro buildings ‘dwelle.ing’, ‘little dwelle.ing’ and ‘mobile dwelle.ing’. To launch the range Dwelle’s stand will feature a scaled-down slice through one of their timber framed structures, showing all of the components that create a dwelle.ing, including Vent-Axia’s Sentinel Kinetic MVHR.
The micro buildings exhibit will run alongside the Grand Theatre, Kevin’s Man Made Home and George Clarke’s tree tent in the Grand Village at Grand Designs. This range of micro buildings came about when Dwelle investigated an alternative solution to create small dwellings that could easily be adapted to suit a wide variety of uses, partly due to the high cost and limited options available in British housing.
Dwelle has therefore created a range of carefully designed micro buildings that are highly sustainable, fast to erect and extremely adaptable. Its award winning "dwelle.ings" can achieve zero carbon status, potentially meet Passivhaus standards and if extended or doubled-up (which can be done at a later date), will meet Lifetime Homes Standards. The simplicity of the system will support different internal configurations and will allow it to be easily extended. It can be a small one bedroom home, a family home, a holiday home, an office, a classroom, a gym, or even a church.

Vent-Axia’s Sentinel Totus2 Demand Energy Recovery Ventilation (D-ERV) system has been shortlisted within two categories in this year’s H&V News Awards. The innovative D-ERV system has been nominated for both Air Movement Product of the Year and Commercial HVAC Product of the Year within these prestigious annual industry awards.
Held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane on Thursday the 25th April, the H&V News Awards will be attended by over 1,000 influential heating and ventilation specialists from across the whole supply chain. The awards recognise and reward the achievements of the UK’s diverse heating and ventilating sector, with winners selected by a panel of judges made up of over 50 esteemed industry experts.
The Sentinel Totus² is part of Vent-Axia’s innovative Lo Carbon™ initiative which aims to offer the latest low carbon ventilation technology in order to reduce building energy consumption and carbon emissions. Integrating the proven Demand Ventilation control concept with high efficiency EC/DC motor technology and a state-of-the-art counterflow heat recovery cell the Sentinel Totus² achieves up to 94% energy recovery.
In addition, the Sentinel Totus² boasts reduced sound levels which are achieved through the use of high density acoustic insulation and efficient air paths which lower turbulence, system noise, and reduce the SFP to below 1.8w/l/s.
Meanwhile the Sentinel Totus² also features a 100% summer bypass. As a result, when temperatures rise the airflow from the heat exchanger is automatically closed off and simultaneously a bypass opens which the cool air flows through.
With customer comfort a key issue the Sentinel Totus² frost heater control also provides top-up heating as well as a frost protection function, eliminating cold draughts and the need to fit duct mounted heaters.
Designed to operate on the principles of demand ventilation the Sentinel Totus² responds to the precise ventilation requirements of a room at any one time providing the right level of supply and extract airflow when required, making it ideal for schools, hotels, theatres, offices and other environments with changing occupancy patterns. It also recovers maximum energy (heat and cool) from the extracted air, transferring it into the fresh air supply via the unit’s integral high efficiency counterflow heat exchanger, significantly reducing fuel consumption and energy costs.
The Sentinel Totus²’ demand operation can be triggered by its response to room occupancy according to a range of different sensor readings. These can include Timeclock or PIR occupancy detection to activate the unit, with additional proportional airflow control from a combination of sensors; CO2, humidity or temperature.
Independently rated and tested to EN308, the Sentinel Totus² incorporates energy efficient EC/DC motor technology, which is proven to use over 30% less energy than conventional AC motors. Automatic air-conditioning and heating interlocks enable Sentinel Totus² to optimise energy recovery performance further and provide free cooling during summer through bypass optimisation.

Vent-Axia, leaders in low carbon ventilation, is delighted to announce that its Kinetic Plus E, Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system has been shortlisted in the Best Services Product Category at this year's Housebuilder Product Awards.
The inaugural Housebuilder Product Awards will be judged and presented at a ceremony at the Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham on Thursday 20 June 2013.
The ceremony will commence with a drinks reception followed by a three course lunch and the Awards presentation. The Housebuilder Products Awards will bring together key personnel from across the industry with the Awards themselves being judged by a panel of industry experts.
Launched in July 2012, the Kinetic Plus E is the best performing MVHR system listed on SAP Appendix Q. Providing up to 84% heat recovery, the Tempra is the only unit of its type which can be retrofitted through a 100mm diameter hole in the wall. This enables standard bathroom, kitchen, toilet or utility room fans to be easily changed for a Tempra without the need to make the hole any larger, saving substantially on installation time and cost.

Central to the Tempra’s compact footprint required to fit in a 100mm diameter hole is its double wheel motorised impellers. The innovative technology allows for just one motor to be used with an extended shaft to drive two impellers to achieve double flow requirements, resulting in a very energy efficient solution. Crawley-based Vent-Axia, the UK’s leading ventilation company, is delighted to have raised almost £5,000 to support the Movember charity. This year Vent-Axia was keen to help break the silence and raise vital funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer, by supporting Movember.

As a result Vent-Axia staff based at both the firm’s Crawley and Dudley manufacturing plants took part in Movember initiative. Male members of staff at Vent-Axia became Mo Bros for 30 days, supported by their Mos Sistas, as they pledged to support the global charity, which is committed to ‘changing the face of men’s health’, one moustache at a time!

But, Vent-Axia did not stop there, keen to spread the Movember word and to maximise fundraising and awareness in the construction industry the firm also encouraged its Electrical Wholesalers and Electrical Contractors to take part and join their customer team.

Finally to show further support to Movember, Vent-Axia also donated £1 to the charity for every Silent Fan it sold during Movember as a contribution to breaking the silence around prostate cancer and testicular cancer. In total through its staff fundraising, as well as its customer team and Silent Fan sales Vent-Axia raised almost £5,000.
