NICEIC and ELECSA, have bolstered their comprehensive training portfolio to include all-new virtual classroom options. Covering the most popular subjects, the virtual suite includes four expert-led courses, all of which mirror the learnings and outcomes of classroom-based alternatives. Hosted by live tutors and developed to work seamlessly across multiple platforms, this latest introduction delivers a compromise-free solution for those wishing to train remotely.

NICEIC and ELECSA reaffirm their commitment to raising standards and delivering technical excellence as they expand their training portfolio to include a range of virtual classroom courses.

Hosted live by expert tutors the all-new virtual suite will initially focus on the following topics Electric Vehicle Charging, 18th Edition, Emergency Lighting Fundamentals, Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems.

Mirroring the learnings and outcomes of class-room based alternatives, contractors will benefit from downloadable course materials and live interaction with the experts.

“COVID-19 has certainly highlighted the need for remote training options, but thankfully this was an area we were already developing. As such, our courses have been meticulously developed and extensively tested to ensure they are fit for purpose. At a time when our face-to-face training has had to pause temporarily, it is fantastic that we can continue to support our customers by supplying compromise free virtual alternatives.”

The courses, which have been running in pilot mode since May, have been well received by customers. Following his attendance, on the virtual Electric Vehicle Charging course, Peter Ash of Taunton Electrical Solutions commented

20 000th Approved Contractor signs up with NICEIC

More than 20 000 firms are now registered as an Approved Contractor with NICEIC – the UK’s leading voluntary regulatory body for the electrical contracting industry. NICEIC has witnessed an increasing number of applications from firms looking for accreditation in recent months. It is the first time in the organisation’s 60 year history the Approved Contractor roll has topped 20, 000. It now maintains a total roll of more than 28 000 registered contractors (including domestic installers).
“This is a significant milestone for NICEIC,” commented Emma Clancy CEO of Cersture, which operates the NICEIC and ELECSA brands.
“It is encouraging to know that when it comes to building and improving their business, contractors are continuing to seek certification because they know it will set them apart from their competitors and help their business grow.”
The 20 000th firm to register with NICEIC was Mottershead Electrics. Its owner is Peter Mottershead from Macclesfield. He was presented with a £100 voucher to spend at NICEIC’s online direct store.
Peter has been an electrician for more than 20 years and recently set up his own business after his previous employer retired.
He said: “I carry out a lot of periodic inspection and testing and a lot of my customers insist on having it done by an NICEIC Approved Contractor. It is the most recognised name in the industry.
“So far it has been going well and I just hope it carries on that way.”
Since its inception in 1956 NICEIC has been the number one choice for electrical contracting firms.
In 2013 when the charity Electrical Safety First (which owns the NICEIC brand) and the Electrical Contractors’ Association (which owns the ELECSA) brand, came together, they formed Certsure – a certification body combining the best of both NICEIC and ELECSA.
Since that merger, Cersture, which looks after more than 36 000 registered firms, committed to improving and delivering a better service to contractors.
Certsure now represents more than 77% of all Part P registered firms in the UK.* Between April 2015 – March 2016 there were 1,451,917 Part P jobs notified to Building Control in England and Wales. Of these over 1.3 million were carried out by Certsure registrants. This means 92% of the work was done by Certsure registrants.
“Over the last 12 months we have worked hard at improving the service we deliver to our customers as well as developing new partnerships with leading organisations which will create new opportunities for all of our registrants,” added Emma.
“These partnerships help build our brand and ensure that NICEIC and ELECSA registered contractors win more work.”
