A state-of-the-art community library based at a Newham can now offer the public brighter, modern environments to enjoy numerous activities. Dextra Lighting have put its stamp on the refurbishment project of the former post office site, now home to Forest Gate Library which has undergone the latest phase of a £20m upgrade.
The modern multi-purpose facility is a revamped community hub where members of the public can gain access to a wide range of library and council services, including free internet access, a family events programme and family friendly children’s area.
The building, which was opened in 2003 now encompasses new lighting in the form of a mixture of luminaries. The design and build project boasts products from Dextra’s lighting ranges which includes Solution Flush, Omni, as well as a range of LED light fittings and other products.The lighting upgrade now offers the public a chance to enjoy the host of different services in a bright and modern environment. Thanks to a wide range of lighting products used within the libraries’ refurbishment project, the public can now enjoy eye-catching and modern surroundings within the multi-purpose community space.
Both surface and suspended variants from the Omni range were utilised within the library upgrade project. Suitable for commercial lighting, school lighting, as well as offering university lighting and office lighting solutions, this product boasts both adaptability and versatility.
The Omni is available in 1,2, 3 and 4 lamp options in 600mm, 1200mm and 1500mm variants.
The product is also an excellent retrofit option for existing T8 luminaire installations and certain variants are also compliant with BS EN 12464.
The library space has been supplied with LED down lighting from the Protec LED range. The product is suitable for a number of different environments which includes retail, airport lighting, education lighting and for use withinreceptions and corridors.
Forming part of the highly established Protec range, the LED variant offers lumen output packages of up to 3000lm, making the LED down lighters an ideal choice for high end specifications, including educational establishments, meeting rooms and retail among others.
The LED down lighters offer significant energy cost savings over their fluorescent lighting equivalents and have been combined with the Amenity LED, a decorative luminaire which can be both wall mounted and ceiling mounted. The Amenity LED is an ideal lighting solution for stairwells, store rooms, utility areas and corridors.
The product combines a 1500 lumen output and light output ratios in excess of 80%. The Amenity LED offers a similar performance to a 28W 2D light fitting with the added benefit of a 50,000 product lifetime, 5 year warranty and lower energy consumption, making it an ideal energy saving choice.
The Newham library also boasts recessed lighting in the form of the Solution Flush. Used in conjunction with a Blade uplighter, which has occurred in this project, compliance to LG7 guidelines can be offered.
The Solution Flush is an ideal option for educational lighting, office lighting and corporate environments, such as meeting rooms.
Compliant with BS EN 12464, display areas and the quality of the lit environment can be enhanced by an increased level of wall illumination offered by the Solution Flush.
The Ecopak is available in 600mm, 1200mm and 1500mm lengths, with both single and twin lamp variants.T5 fluorescent lighting has been supplied to the library in the form of the Ecopak. The Ecopak offers significant energy reductions over T8 lighting alternatives and is designed to replace existing T8 batten luminaires. The T5 lighting system is ideal as a replacement for T8 battens and can be used in store rooms and factories.
A mixture of high quality, modern products from Dextra Lighting have assisted Newham Council’s commitment to delivering a programme of investment to the rejuvenated East London library.
