College lighting has been granted a bright boost during a recent refurbishment project in West Sussex. Felpham Community College is home to more than 1400 pupils and has undergone a recent refurbishment within classrooms and corridors. The Bognor-based college now boasts an extensive lighting upgrade, with two high-performing fluorescent luminaires from Dextra Lighting being utilised throughout the school’s space.
As well as upgraded corridor lighting, the college has also benefited from upgraded classroom lighting through use of a mixture of recessed fluorescent lighting and fluorescent downlights. Both the Protec down lights and Solution Flush fluorescent luminaire were used to transform areas within the school.
Classroom lighting was given an upgrade with the Solution Flush T5 fluorescent luminaire. The Solution Flush forms part of Dextra Lighting’s popular Solution range of luminaires. Suitable for a wide range of applications including schools, universities, meeting rooms and offices, the Solution Flush effectively illuminates the classrooms, allowing pupils to enjoy learning in a brighter lit space.
The luminaire not only effectively increases the level of wall illumination to enhance display areas, but is also compliant with BS EN 12464 lighting standards.
In projects looking to achieve compliance to LG7, the Blade uplighter can be used in conjunction with both the Solution Flush and Asymmetric to offer compliance with LG7. The attractive recessed fluorescent luminaires tie in perfectly with the classroom space and offers an appealing upgrade. The corridors have also been upgraded with a number of eye-catching Protec fluorescent downlights.
Suitable for a host of applications, such as retail environments and the hospitality sector, the Protec has been designed with both performance and versatility in mind.
Available with a host of various different body formats including vertical, medium and large horizontal and surface, the highly flexible luminaire can tie-in and suit the demands of numerous environments. The Protec also encompasses lamp options which range from single 13W up to twin 42W, all supplied with high frequency to enhance energy savings. The white powder coated steel housing is not only robust, but ties in well with the corridor space.
The high-performing fluorescent lighting also boasts a light output ratio of up to 82%. Each of the popular fluorescent luminaires have successfully assisted with fulfilling the project brief to provide an improved teaching environment along with significant energy savings.

An Aberdeen-based business centre has undergone an impressive £125,000 refurbishment, with workers benefiting from brighter working environments. Prospect Park Business Centre, currently under development, is home to four individual office sites for oil-based companies which include Blue Sky and Bibby Offshore, that offer services to both the oil and gas industry.
A number of luminaires were installed during the project, with products utilised from the Discalo, Amenity and Solution ranges.
The multi-functional Discalo can be used in numerous settings including reception areas, restaurants, bars and retail. This popular product can also provide lighting solutions to stairways, corridors and feature walls.

With a philosophy built on the commitment to provide the best possible environment in which its children can flourish and achieve, school lighting has played a key role in enhancing that ethos further at Gloucester-based Beech Green Primary School. It is the latest in a long line of education lighting projects undertaken in schools, colleges and universities for Dextra Lighting who collaborated with consultants Atkins at Beech Green. The Duet T5 came top of the class, with both the school and Atkins opting for bi-directional T5 fluorescent lighting. Duet T5 fluorescent lighting is suspended with an integral sensor- the REAi 14 mini head.
The fittings are all dimmable and in classrooms are linked with a Bus Lite power supply unit to enable all lights to be switched and dimmed together manually as an override. This gives the school flexibility to use presence detection in the break out areas and utilise absence detection in the classrooms.
The Duet T5 is the latest luminaire in the Dextra Lighting T5 fluorescent lighting range making the use of the most up-to-date louvre technology whilst combining efficiency, flexibility and modern and attractive design. It also incorporates the latest AWB louvre range which utilises the highest grade aluminium. Dextra’s bespoke closed black louvre blades can give light output ratios of up to 82%, whilst the leaf spring system allows it to be removed easily for maintenance.
The Duet T5 has been designed to suit the widest possible range of applications and can be surface mounted either individually or continuously run as Beech Green has chosen in this project.
The wide range of body styles and optics also allows the Duet T5 to be customised to suit most applications, including university lighting and a host of education lighting. The LG3 louvre gives compliance to BS EN 12464 for applications where computer monitors are in use while the extruded TPA diffuser and low brightness louvre options are suitable for a range of other situations where glare control is not critical such as corridors, receptions, meeting rooms and retail applications.
Dextra Lighting now have the opportunity to showcase their work, thanks to Atkins consultants wanting a factory tour. Atkins were so impressed with what Dextra Lighting can offer as a company and the service provided on the job regarding delivery and order lead time.
