Professional PAT testers in Megger’s popular PAT400 range are now even faster and more convenient to use, thanks to new features that include auto-incrementing of asset numbers, a new timesaving expert mode, and facilities for automatically adding a company name to barcode labels.

The additional features are provided by enhanced firmware that is included as standard in all instruments currently being supplied, and which is also available as a free download for existing registered users of PAT400 instruments.

Auto-incrementing of asset numbers is achieved with a hot key, and provides a fast and dependable way of ensuring that each asset is assigned a unique reference number. This new feature complements the entry of asset numbers using a barcode scanner, a popular option that has been supported since the instruments were first launched.

The new expert mode enables experienced users to turn off the prompts – such as “attach earth bond test lead” – which the PAT400 testers normally display as an aid to testing. For users who are familiar with the instrument and with PAT testing procedures, eliminating the prompts saves valuable testing time. Safety warnings are unaffected by this new feature, and are always displayed.

For many users, particularly independent providers of PAT testing services, printing their company name and/or contact details on the barcode labels is a invaluable option as it provides publicity and helps with business retention. With the new firmware upgrade, users can now choose to include on the labels either their own company details, or the details of the client and location.

PAT400 testers with the new firmware retain all of the innovative features that have made these instruments so successful, including rapid start up, instant restart after temporary disconnection when moving between test locations, and a choice of manual or automatic operation, with a high level of customisability in automatic mode.
