What do you think of the current state of the electrical trade?

In recent years the electrical industry has seen significant change. It is no longer a requirement to serve a long apprenticeship and learn the trade 'hands on' Nowdays it it possible to train in 6 weeks and start trading as an electrician with no practical experience.

You will be able to sign up to a scheme provider without showing proof of your working standards and legitimately and legally trade as a fully insured Part P electrician.

So what has Part P done for you since its introduction in 2005?

Is there any difference between a cowboy electrician and an electrician working in your home after obtaining a fast track qualification?

In a recent discussion, the My Local Electrician linked in group discussed how a Part P group to help address these issues might work and whether electricians would contribute to such a group.

Are you a time served electrician who is feeling fleeced by the current situation with Part P and the training options available nowadays?

Do you support the new courses – after all are they not providing a route to earning good money far quicker?

Is it necessary to obtain experience beforehand or it it ok to obtain the experience as you go? After all you are Part P compliant and insured?

Maybe you have left the industry as you were fed up with jumping through hoops constantly and switching the goal posts to suit the ever changing regulations and requirements?
