Vent-Axia has recently added a horizontal range to its popular series of Sentinel Kinetic mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) solutions. Part of the company’s innovative Lo Carbon™ initiative, the new horizontal range boasts depths as low as 200mm making the units ideal for installation in shallow ceiling voids and thus attractive to developers requiring solutions to reduce building heights.
Manufactured in the UK, the flexible Sentinel Kinetic Horizontal is a whole house heat recovery system. Eligible for SAP Appendix Q the range combines supply and extract ventilation in one unit. Warm, moist air is extracted from ‘wet’ rooms through ducting and passed through the heat exchanger before being exhausted outside. Fresh incoming air is preheated via the integral heat exchanger which recovers up to 81% of the heat energy that would otherwise be wasted. The unit’s energy saving Vent-Axia Lo-Carbon EC DC fans further improve efficiency and carbon reductions.
In addition, heat recovery ventilation reduces excessive moisture in the air, combating condensation and subsequent mould growth, saving money on maintenance and decoration in the long and short-term. Home owners or tenants are further aided through better indoor air quality which has the duel health benefits of reducing microscopic fungal growth and eliminating the conditions in which house dust mites thrive, both of which are linked to allergic reactions and asthma.
Meeting the latest requirements of Building Regulations Document Part F 2010 for wholehouse ventilation, System 4, the Sentinel Kinetic Horizontal has three fully adjustable speeds and a purge setting. The range is supplied with a digital controller that can be used to pre-set the speeds to any required air-flow within the performance range.
Offering exceptional performance the series boasts a specific fan power (SPF) as low as 0.51W/l/s and is ideal for a range of applications from small one bedroom apartments to large houses, as well as commercial applications, such as student accommodation. The Sentinel Kinetic Horizontal’s performance is further enhanced by the latest high efficiency backward curved impeller design ensuring lowest possible energy consumption and ultra-quiet operation.
Featuring multiple plug and play control options and BMS connectivity the Sentinel Kinetic Horizontal has five Volt-free sensor inputs allowing boosting from a full range of Vent-Axia controllers including humidistats, PIR, CO2, Vent-Wise and timers, as well as wireless remote. Switched live for boosting via light switches (LS) or manual Normal/boost switches the connection benefits from a ‘delay on’ feature which prevents the unit boosting unnecessarily.
Integral system controls include a sensor that increases fan speed in proportion to humidity levels, saving energy and reducing noise. The sensor also reacts to small but rapid increases in humidity, even if the trigger threshold is not reached, ensuring adequate ventilation for even the smallest wet-room.
Meanwhile, a night time relative humidity setback feature suppresses nuisance tripping and noise as humidity gradually increases with falling temperature. Noise levels are an important factor for home owners and tenants and the unit’s quiet operation, as low as 20dB(A) at 3 metres, is aided through it being acoustically lined.
To ensure year round thermal comfort in increasingly air tight properties the Sentinel Kinetic Horizontal includes a programmable Summer Bypass which operates when a home’s temperature rises above a pre-set Comfort Temperature. Meanwhile, in winter the unit utilises frost protection to stop frost building up on the intake side of the heat exchanger and so preventing damage.
Comprising models measuring 200mm and 300mm in depth the Sentinel Kinetic Horizontal range offers flexible siting options. The unit is fitted to a bracket on the ceiling makes installation easy. Once installed maintenance is simple with service access available from below and self-diagnosis for simplified fault finding.
