With the new PSI410 phase sequence indicator from Megger, the phase rotation of three-phase supplies can be checked quickly, reliably and safely, thereby eliminating the risk of the costly damage to equipment that can occur when supplies are incorrectly connected. Compact yet robust, the PSI410 provides clear and unambiguous visual and audible indications of phase rotation, as well as instantly revealing missing phases.
With a CAT IV 600 V safety rating, the new PSI410 is suitable for use on all parts of LV installations, even close to the source of supply. It uses a bicolour LED display to show phase sequence. For clockwise phase rotation, the LEDs show green and are illuminated in a clockwise sequence, whereas for anticlockwise phase rotation the LEDs show red and are illuminated in an anticlockwise sequence.
The apparent rotational speed of the display is not governed by the frequency of the supply. Instead, the speed has been chosen to make it easy to see the direction of rotation. As well as being visibly displayed, clockwise phase rotation is indicated audibly by a continuous tone and anticlockwise rotation by a warbling tone.
To confirm the presence or absence of phases, three additional bicolour LEDs are provided. These show green for phases that are present and have a voltage of at least 195 V, and red for phases that are absent or have a lower voltage.
Megger’s PSI410 phase sequence indicators need no batteries as they are powered from the supply under test. For convenient use with older installations that use red, yellow and blue phase colours as well as with more modern installations that use brown, black and grey, the units feature dual colour coding.
The testers are supplied complete with a set of 830 mm long fused test leads, together with probes and crocodile clips. The probes have exposed tips of less than 4 mm and the crocodile clips feature enhanced insulation, ensuring full compliance with the new BS EN 61010-031:2008 standard.
