Specifically optimised for use on power cables of all types – including the latest concentric types – Megger’s new hand-held TDR1000/2P time domain reflectometer (TDR) allows cable faults to be located quickly and easily, even by users with little or no experience of working with TDRs. The instrument requires no power blocking filter and is supplied with a newly developed lead set that further enhances its performance.
The new TDR1000/2P has a minimum resolution of 0.1 m and, compared with its predecessors, it offers much greater clarity on short distance traces when used on concentric power cables. The maximum range of the instrument is up to 3 km, depending on the cable type and the velocity factor selected.
To ensure that it can meet all fault locating requirements on any type of power cable, the TDR1000/2P offers a choice of four output impedances – 25 Ω, 50 Ω, 75 Ω and 100 Ω – and a velocity factor setting that can be adjusted over the range 0.2 to 0.99 in increments of 0.1. All settings are readily accessed from the instrument’s keypad, which is also used to initiate and control testing.
The results are shown on a large easy-to-read monochrome liquid crystal display, and the instrument can be configured to work in either metric or imperial units. The display refresh rate can be set to once or three times per second.
For maximum user safety, the instrument fully meets the requirements of IEC 61010-1 CAT III for connection to live systems up to 300 V. It also complies with Electromagnetic Compatibility Specifications (Light Industrial) to BS EN 61326-1, with a minimum performance level of B for all immunity tests.
Equally suitable for use indoors and outdoors, the TDR1000/2P features rugged construction and has an IP54 ingress protection rating, complemented by a wide operating temperature range of -15ºC to +50ºC. The unit is supplied in a convenient carrying case with strap, complete with a specially designed fused test lead set and a user guide.
