The importance of Periodic Inspection Reporting (PIR) on all properties remains imperative to maintain the safety of householders and tenants and continues to be highlighted by Competent Person Scheme Operator, NAPIT.
This follows the tragic death of a mother of two, originally from Birmingham, who moved with her family to Cornwall into a rented property. Sadly an electric fault and the lack of earth bonding caused the lethal electrocution and Mrs. Whithall died instantly, simply from running a bath. Following the inquest which was closed late last year, her husband now rightly calls for a change in the law on electrical installations in rented properties.
NAPIT fully supports this and have recognised the need for specific training in this area for their electrical members and have recently announced the launch of their new Electrical Inspector PIR Course. With over 6,000 Electrical Installers across the UK, NAPIT are passionate about electrical safety and ensuring their standards are the highest in the industry.
Homeowners and tenants can get electrical advice from their local NAPIT Electrician and receive information on earthing and bonding. A new leaflet produced by NAPIT is also available titled ‘Why on earth does my bonding needs checking?’ to explain in easily understood terms the importance of this work that may be required on your home.
