The Ei168RC from Aico Ltd. is a base unit for the company’s unique RadioLINK wireless interconnect mains powered smoke alarm system.
The base unit adds a number of important extra features to RadioLINK, as well as enabling installers to take advantage of Aico’s new RC control technology. Aico says that this upgrade now makes its RadioLINK systems technology even better suited to more comprehensive alarm systems, offering greater coverage and protection, but also allowing greater control.
RadioLINK works by allowing mains powered smoke and heat alarms to be wirelessly interconnected. If one alarm on the system is triggered, radio waves are used to cause every other alarm in the property to sound.
The Ei168RC RadioLINK base is set as a multi-level repeater as standard, being capable of receiving, transmitting and re-transmitting to achieve multiple signal paths. This means that it is now possible to achieve increased coverage in properties with a larger floor area and confidently integrate a larger number of alarms into the system. The multiple path capability allows the system to avoid most RF-impenetrable structures within the property that may have previously blocked signals.
Aico has also taken the opportunity to simplify and speed up RadioLINK’s house coding and commissioning procedure.
The RC function now enables the base unit to communicate with the RadioLINK Ei411H Remote Control switch, which offers the resident the facility to test the system and silence nuisance alarms. This feature is not only extremely valuable – as it offers a good degree of control over more comprehensive systems – but, as the switch can be located at a convenient height, it provides an extra measure of safety for residents. Units can be tested and any false alarms silenced with no need to reach up to a ceiling mounted alarm.
The Ei168RC RadioLINK base is fully compatible with Aico’s Ei160 RC Series of smoke and heat alarms, which offer 10 year plus Lithium cell back-up, the forerunner of which has been proven in literally hundreds of thousands of successful applications nationwide.
